Givenchy fw24

Givenchy’s FW24 collection is a quiet assertion that sometimes the soul of a fashion house is best understood by those who have been quietly crafting its legacy all along. With the creative director’s seat conspicuously vacant, the atelier team stepped into the spotlight, not with grandiose statements, but with a collection that whispered the essence of Givenchy. This show was not about making headlines, but honoring tradition and moving forward with a steady hand.

Who will take the reins of Givenchy? When will the announcement come?

While everyone whispered in anticipation and conspiracy, the atelier focused on what was actually important: the clothes. Digging into the house’s DNA and archives, they created a collection that was both relevant and contemporary.

The show opened with a silver beaded dress that shimmered like a moonlit sea with a narrow trail trailing behind. The length of the garment is quite short, but equally playful. This was not just any dress, but a tribute to Hubert de Givenchy’s beloved cat.

Suits!! Lots of suits!

Their inclusion in this collection is a declaration of its enduring house identity. Suits have long been a cornerstone of Givenchy, embodying the brand’s commitment to precise tailoring, elegance, and a certain Parisian sophistication that has been synonymous with the house. In this collection the atelier played with proportions in ways that felt both classic and modern. The fabrics ranged from sumptuous wools to silks.

Then there were feathers, rooster feathers to be precise. Adorned jackets were covered in them and so was the final look: a delicate wedding dress. Closing a ready-to-wear collection with such a garment is a rare move, but in this context it made perfect sense. The wedding dress was a nod to Givenchy’s haute couture heritage. The dress itself was a masterpiece of subtlety, delicate and ethereal, yet grounded in the precision and craftsmanship that defines Givenchy.

This collection was a study in how to honor a legacy without being weighed down by it.
